Around 300 villagers from Kbal Trach Commune, Pursat, protested in front of Pheapimex bulldozers which cleared their land this morning.

CLEC undertook the initial fact finding and legal analysis to affirm the legal possessory rights of 1,143 local community households who have owned approximately 10,000 hectares of land within the areas occupied by and under development of the Union Development Group Co, LTD (UDG) after the company received a 99 year lease contract in 2009 for the development of 36,000 hectares of land within the Botumsakor National Park. 

 
 

2011-11-25   CLEC

CLEC, in collaboration with the local NGO ADHOC and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, successfully advocated for four villages, Puraing, Puchar, Pulames and Bousra, to receive legal status as indigenous communities, which they received on 26-27 March 2011. Their legal identities, culture, customs and traditions are defined according to the 2001 Land Law and their committees have been elected by the members of the community.
